Rafal Mac TMT award winning flight

12:30 pm at the west car park. The wind was” W ” 3m/s - 5m/s.

Looking up a the clouds they looked really pretty.
A few minutes later I geared up and took off  but the first hour was hard to get any good height.

The thermals were strong and turbulent and quite often the wind slackened.

After over 2 hours flying nothing changed, I was still at the West Car Park.

3pm and I thought about landing but as I flew out from the ridge, maybe  200m above the ground  I found good lift up the cloud base.

When I finish turning I was already over the windmills just before Bunclody too far to come back so I headed in an easterly direction  and began looking for thermals.

5km to the east  of  Bunclody  I found small hill “Slieveboy”350m  ASL a few minutes later I got good lift up to cloud base.

From this point I change direction to N.E. because  I could see more hills located  far from the sea  and I believed that there might be more chance of thermals.

And it happened, there were thermals on  almost every sunny slope.

At 4:50pm I passed Anna Hill and still heading N.E.

5:20pm  I passed  a river in Arklow  and then on over Avoca with lots of height.

I only had one problem and that was that the clouds were getting bigger very quickly and the situation didn’t look nice.

So I made a decision  about landing, I took an easterly direction form Avoca  to Brittas Bay.
And landed close to N11 beside the Beehive Pub  Co. Wicklow. Time for another pint.
